Summit Developpment Project

of Oases in Maden El-Ervan (SPODME)

The problems of Oasis Développment in Mauritania

Draught has caused the disappearance of nearly 80 % of the palmtrees in 30 years in some oases (on the picture, Chinguetty oasis which was an amazonian forest of palmtrees in 1970 nothing which is remaining now except some traces of dry palmtree trunks on moving sandsecs

The Bayoud is among our palmtrees. This disea-se has already destroyed 14 millions of palmtrees in Morocco and Algeria and threatens to destroy the 2 millions of Mauri-tania palmtrees. Other destroyers, the while cochenille, the acariosis are present.

Ignorance of cultivation techniques is the cause of low incomes of Mauritania palm tree of 15kg cited by WFO instead of 160 kg in other ereas : on the picture the skull on the palm tree trunk (Tongued oasian) is sometimes used desperately against the evil eye...

Poverty of the populations of oasies, the luck of funds of skills and of basic infrustructure make the oasian ecosystem unstable and binds the durable developpement of Mauritanian oases. There are no leading oases which spread out production systems..

The solution: Summit Developpment Project of Oases in  Maden El-Ervan (SPODME) à travers le financement des 4 dimensions suivantes:
Environnement: 14 Projects de of l’environnement  protection which aim at the rebirth of the oasian vegetal, bush and pastoral cover. The techniques of water harvest should be handled and some infrastructure buit for desenclavement. (Picture of irrigation system through asperging handled with strong water saving). Irrigation through submersion in sandy land provoques a loss of 80% of water resource of the oases.

Palmtrees: 5 projects de développement : Pabo-ratories at national level which try by in vitro culture to multiply qual-ity palmtrees, resisting to the Bayoud (picture of the laboratory part of Angers LRPV laboratory in France) the transfer of this technology to the South has been success-fully realised by the EEC in the neighbouring countries except ours. Each year, some laborato-ries produce one million of palm trees.

Education : 10 développement projects human resources among which the educational complex virtual high education in languages and computer sci-ence (pictures of secondary school pupils of Maden in their need of assistance in their en-gaged program of fight against ignorance). Only a new genera-tion of youths from these oases well trained benefiting intensive, ongoing and free of charge classes with the help of New Techniques of Information and Communication will be able to eradicate ignorance. All the neighbouring oases benefit from this project.

Poverty : 32 projects for fight-ing against poverty, which aim at spreading new techniques and technologies of rational exploit-ing of (palmtrees) through the generalisation of micro-projects which produce revenues to women and children.. (Picture of women agriculture exploitants in need of assistance in fighting against poverty). Women saving banks for credit for housing and health are planned. All the neighbouring oases are benefit-ing from such projects.

The Oasis of Maden lies in beauty between the mountains of Emert and the large dunes of Leklewa in Adrar. This Wilaya holds 985 000 palmtrees among the 2 000 000 of Mauritania. Maden is 100 km away South of Atar passing by  Terjit Oases or  Medina El Ousta.

Maden El Ervan holds important hydric resources annually renewed by its bridge built in 1970 by defunt Saint Ould Sidina, Spiritual leader of the Community : the natural conditions and edaphic of economy viability and technical of the SDSPOM are exclusively gathered in Maden El Ervan Oasis

These people need development partners to finance the summit project of Oasian Developpment
